Before Your Appointment
- Know your insurance coverage
- Know and understand any exam preparation instructions for your exam, as explained below.
- If you had any prior mammography exams done at another facility, please obtain those images and bring them with you or complete the Patient Release Form to have them sent to us.
- If you have moved or are going to another facility and need our images sent to that facility or a doctor’s office then complete the Authorization to Release Medical Imaging Form and fax to 636-779-8010.
For Your Appointment
Bring the following items with you:
- Photo ID
- Your insurance card
- Any prior exam images if applicable
- Wear 2 piece clothing i.e. skirt and blouse, slacks and top, etc.

Your Exam
- Prior to your exam we request that you do not use deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, lotion or perfume on your breasts or under your arms. These products leave residue on the skin that may create spots on the x-ray. St. Louis Breast Center will provide spray deodorant after your exam.
- After you have registered at the front desk, a technologist will walk you back to the sub-waiting room where you will be ask to enter a private changing area. You will be given a medical gown to cover your top. Please remove clothes above your waist.
- In a screening mammogram, the technologist will usually take two images of each breast. In a diagnostic mammogram additional images will be taken.
- Cyst Aspiration and US Guided Biopsy will require a medical history and consent form. Please bring a list of all medications and any medical conditions you have, since these may affect your exam.
- Screening results will not be available immediately following your exam but will be sent to your ordering physician within 48 hrs.
- Diagnostic Results will be discussed verbally with you by the breast radiologist, nurse navigator or technologist at the time of your exam.
- US Guided Biopsy results are sent to your ordering physician within 2-3 business days.
